The Craig County sheriff has taken out his frustration over a lawsuit filed by a Vinita couple who helped care for hundreds of starving livestock in a letter.

Sheriff Jimmie Sooter wrote to the Tulsa World that he is proud of his office's role in helping 1,250 sheep and hundreds of other livestock that belonged to a former Bluejacket rancher.

'My deputies worked in temperatures well below freezing to rescue these unfortunate animals,' Sooter wrote.

He also credited the Humane Society of the United States and area residents 'who worked side-by-side with my deputies ... with no pay or reward other than the satisfaction of giving the animals a chance to survive.' Read more
