Forks zoners reject variance request for car wash

A car-washing business isn't in Forks Township 's future, at least not the one proposed Monday night to the Zoning Hearing Board.

Spiro Kounoubis of Easton lost his bid to establish a car wash/quick oil lube business in Town Center Boulevard when the zoners voted unanimously to reject his request for a variance.

Supervisor Chairman David Howell and resident James Wideman objected to the request, saying that it was not permitted in the Town Center District. Both encouraged the zoners to deny the request. Read more

Developers and their engineers are not planners and should not be allowed to plan any community and buck the land use ordinance because they think something is a good idea. That is the community's job to determine what is a good idea or not. Kudos to Forks for upholding its ordinances. It is often and actually funny that these civil engineers show up a zoning hearing board meetings and attempt to provide expert testimony as to why or why not a land use is allowed in a particular zoning district. Civil engineers need to stick to designing roads and drainage systems. They are not land use planning experts. If Howells did not show at the meeting, it is possible that the Zoners would have drank the developer's kool aid.

What's worse in Forks is that the Planning Commissioners support the stupid ideas of the engineers. A cheer for upholding strick zoning laws.

trailer parks, as you call them...are not what they used to be...alot of homes in the area are pre-fabs...same as trailers and cost 200,000 to put them up now....if you are going by the trailers(?)at the golf course..you are out of line..the only sin to them is how much they charge for them...a trailer park would be the one that USED TO BE behind DeLorenzo's before the modulars went in there years back....
