WITTENBERG -- The former school superintendent helped acquaintances at a Madison business secure a no-bid contract to install energy-efficient systems at the Darwin E. Smith Aquatic Center, a company executive says.

The Darwin E. Smith Aquatic Center in Wittenberg is going green. The 12-year-old pool will be closing July 20 for at least three weeks so new energy-efficient boilers, lighting and air handling systems can be installed to save the center a projected $30,000 to $40,000 each year.

The Aspirus Women's Health mobile imaging unit will be in Birnamwood July 23, offering free clinical breast exams and mammograms to women who meet certain qualifications.
