Piatt County sheriff's deputies hope they have solved a string of at least 13 rural burglaries over the past two years that occurred throughout the county.

The Cerro Gordo school board held a joint meeting with Bement's board of education to review the status of the two districts' current partnership along with discussing new ideas for further collaboration.

There are no school consolidation talks under way for Bement and Cerro Gordo, but both school boards will hear what re-organization options are available at a joint meeting Wednesday night in Cerro Gordo.

Villa Grove High School Principal Sheila Greenwood was hired as superintendent of the 322-student Bement school district Wednesday night.

A 54-year-old Bement man is accused of stealing more than $10,000 while serving as treasurer of the community's Lions Club.
