Firefighter charged in brush fire

A 19-year-old volunteer firefighter with Pond Creek Volunteer Fire Department was charged with arson Thursday after allegedly setting a brush fire in a field off California Ridge Road, near Belleville, early Tuesday afternoon.

After two days of deliberations, a special session of the Wood County grand jury returned indictments against 41 individuals Tuesday.

Bid awarded to clean up Akers prope.....

Wood County commissioners awarded a clean-up job on Meadville Road to Empire Builders for the bid quote of $2,800. Two bids were turned in for the cleanup of the property owned by Betty Akers.
