Navy Seaman Recruit Ryne E. Thompson, son of Evan W. and stepson of Martha Thompson of Beatty, and brother of Elliott M. Thompson of Slidell, La., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command here.

The purchase of a water tender to replace one destroyed in a fire last March in Amargosa Valley, was one of a few steps taken by Nye County Commissioners Tuesday to address rural fire departments.

Four new teachers had joined Death Valley High School in 1971. They were Mrs. Vicki Turner, a graduate of grade school in Pahrump and one of the youngest secondary school teachers in the state, along with James Butman, a UNLV grad; Kenneth Gates, from Oregon State, and Cynthia Jean Jones, a graduate of Sacramento State.
