Counseling Center of Iredell now part of Barium Springs Home
“We initiated the partnership with Barium Springs because of its reputation and expertise.”
The financially ailing Counseling Center of Iredell this week merged into the Barium Springs Home for Children merged to expand the home's community services.
Barium Springs will continue to operate services under The Counseling Center name.
'Funding sources that The Counseling Center had been using for years had started to dry up, and we needed to find other areas to cover that deficit,' 15-year Counseling Center board member Roy West said in a written statement released by Barium Springs Home for Children. Read more

One at Each School: Troutman wants police at schools
“That officer spends the other 60 percent of her time at Barium Springs Academy. We request the placement of a full- time officer as soon as possible.”
The Troutman town board has approved placing town police officers in Troutman Middle School and South Iredell High School, taking the spot of Iredell County sheriff's deputies.
The change will allow the middle school to have a full-time police presence. The Sheriff's Department has provided part-time coverage.
The new officers will be designated as school resource officers to assist the school administrations when students or others commit acts of violence or crimes in the schools or on school property. Read more

Registration for spring at MCC
Final registration for spring classes at Mitchell Community College will be 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday at its main campus, 500 W. Broad St., Statesville, and at its Mooresville campus, 219 N. Academy St. Classes begin Jan. 7.New student orientation will be 9 a.m.-noon Friday in Rotary Auditorium on the main campus.
The program will introduce students to faculty, staff and other resources available. Lunch will be served and parents are welcome.
