Reeves County Commissioner, Pct. 3; Saul Hererra

Reeves County Commissioner, Pct. 3; Saul Hererra, man of integrity; man of experience; man of the people.

Reeves County Commissioner for Pct.3, Saul Hererra just dropped by. Amazing! He is going door-to-door like an old Yellow Dog Democrat, campaigning here in Balmorhea, shaking hands and greeting friends and neighbors. I'm impressed!

Commissioner Hererra is up for reelection on March 4th . I had already made a personal commitment to support him a couple of weeks ago but his personal touch in Balmorhea reinforced my decision and I delayed him long enough to get him to place a placard in my yard and introduced him to my neighbors. Of course, he already knew everybody....long before I met them myself.

The Balmorhea Progressive: "Cyclone" Hits Balmorhea State Park & San Solomon Springs

"Cyclone," posting at ScubaToys Diving Forum, documents his recent visit here where he captured some pretty cool video and digital stills. My favorite part: A turtle comes up to check out his gloved fingers and to say hello. There is much, much more if you follow the link above.

UPDATE on Female Survivor of Balmorhea Crash

Sunday, 11/04/07 -- According to a journalistic source at The Balmorhea Progressive, word has come from the Medical Center in Odessa shortly before noon today that the female passenger involved in the fatal one car crash yesterday outside of Balmorhea has survived and is now in stable condition.

Her name, age and hometown have not yet been announced due to confidentiality issues regulating medical records.

Neither has the identity of her companion, the driver of the vehicle who did not survive the crash, been announced to the public, pending notification of next of kin. [See story below.]

The two were eastbound on I-35 when the mishap occurred and were apparently in route from San Diego, where both were thought to be members of the Navy or recently discharged.

There still is nothing on the wires from San Diego where the couple is thought to have departed late last week to an unknown destination.
