Crews worked to clear wreckage from a train derailment in the western North Carolina mountains.

Twenty cars on a CSX train derailed a little before dawn Wednesday in a rural area west of Bakersville, with some toppling to within feet of the North Toe River.

Law enforcement and state transportation officials are reporting a train derailment in Mitchell County this morning.
