GOP race in District 99 heats up

FORT WORTH -- The only thing thicker than the aroma of hickory sauce at Shady Oaks Barbecue last week was the tension between the two candidates.

State Rep. Charlie Geren, R-Fort Worth, and his opponent in the Republican primary were participating in a candidates forum at the monthly meeting of the North Tarrant Republican Club.

Geren used most of his opening statement to call optometrist Tom Annunziato a liar and accuse him of running a dirty campaign.

Annunziato then addressed the crowd, ignoring Geren's allegations. 'I'm Tom Annunziato, and this is my first time running for office, and this is all new to me,' he said. Read more
