I don't know if this is true or not but a relative told me that AEP will reimburse anyone that was affected by the snowstorm that doesn't get food stamps up to $400. I don't live in the area so I have not called AEP about it,but for anyone that does and has really suffered a loss it would be worth looking into. hope this is true and helps somebody.

Thanks for posting this, I'll call tommrow and find out! I had called them before and they told me they wouldnt be reimbursing anything at all, said the natural disaster wasnt their fault! At the same time I asked well when are you going to try to get out and get this fixed and I was told flatly that they wouldnt have their men to risk their lives to get the power on! I said wait a minute here I dont want anyone risking their lives either but plain and simple people were literally dying in their own homes because some people had no heat of any kind etc, and the men that work for AEP knew the risks of this job when they took it. But hopefully enough people have raised a fuss that they have changed their minds about helping replace food, god knows they can afford it everybody's electric bill that I have talked to atleast doubled last month no matter how much power they actually used! |
In a related story, I "heard" AEP was asking for a 43% rate increase. |
more than likely no money for your food but a rate increase to cover what they have lost!If there not made to pay anyone they are not going to. |
They can afford it! They ask for a damned increase every two weeks!
I don't see why AEP would reimburse anyone for what Nature did. As someone stated earlier... It's not their fault. I think these fellas deserve a pat on the back for leaving their families around the Holiday to come help "Our Families" have power for Christmas. It has taken quite a while in some areas, but every where I go I see several company & service trucks. They really seem to be doing the best they can. |
I doubt there will be any reimbursements either. I too would commend the workers for their tireless efforts. I grew up in a family that worked for AEP and I know the sacrifices they go through, not only with severe weather like this but even auto accidents that shear poles etc. T he only problem I have is that the number of workers has been cut to the bone. The companies like to brag about how they're bringing workers from other states to "help" with the problems. What they don't tell you is that they HAVE to do that because they have so few workers here. |
This I have to raise the BS flag,if it sounds to good to be true it usually is. |
Isnt that the truth! I'm so fed up with AEP it's ridiculous! There was a transformer that blew up on the property next to mine, well we called and reported it, and it still took them 2 days to get out there and fix it! Not because of the weather because they came straight out to look at it but didnt come back for 2 days to fix it, then we had to give them a right of way through our property to get to this other property to fix the problem they ended up doing around 8000.00 worth of damage to my property just to set another pole in! I raised enough hell that they are going to fix it at their expense but in the future if they want to cross my property for anything they will have to have a court order! |

I'm not saying these guys aren't busting their chops to get the power back on, I'm saying the PARENT COMPANY could afford to reimburse.. Not saying it will either.. i call B.S. on that as well.
Was this on the Welch-Pineville road? |
I just got my power bill and it went up to $120 and I don't have any heat source on my bill. I pity you people with heat pumps.
No it was in the princeton area, but I'm sure they are going all over doing this kind of thing, I'm disgusted with them! |
Same thing happened on the W-P road. A transformer blew up as soon as they got the power hooked up and they told them that it would be at least the 24th before they would come back. There were 4 houses affected by it. I don't know when they came back, though. |
AEP is just getting ridiculous in my opinion they keep raising that bill, and they want their money on time, but when it comes to help of any kind or even just them doing their job in a timely manner you cant get them to do anything, I guess they know we have to have the power and they are the only place to get it from so they can do whatever they want to! The only reson I let them go ahead and cross my property to start with is because there was 44 people without power from that one pole being down and alot of elderly live in my area and theres some small kids in the neighborhood to, I never dreamed they'd tear up hell to set one pole back! Even though they are fixing it back it still upsets me because we are planning on selling our house this spring and I'm hoping and praying it looks right if the landscaping turns out looking bad the value of my property will go down. Thanks again AEP for a job not so well done! |
They don't care anything except making the big bucks during this. If they would spend some of that "raise" that they keep getting, we wouldn't have all of these problems. They never replace any of the lines or do any upgrade on anything. I say that if you get your landscape back as it should be, it will be up to you. |

Since this area was declared a "disaster area" by the governor it looks to me like the state could get some federal funding to help replace all the lost food and the extra kerosene, candles, gas, and whatever we had to buy to get through the storm. There's not a hope in He&& that AEP will reimburse anyone.
All of the above was in place for the people of SC each time we are declared a disaster area. I don't understand this mess, either. As for AEP giving a refund.....they are laughing at anyone that would believe such a lie. You might get a credit.....and then a rate high over the moon. |
It has nothing to do with replacing lines, it has to do with mother nature and a major storm which caused multiple tres to fall taking down the lines. It was then delayed by people stealing the copper wire out of downed lines and by the boondogle the OES office and the Gaurd made by determining where to send crews and what priority certain areas wer on the list. |
I realize that the storm was the cause of the power outage, but they used to cut the trees out of the lines so that this wouldn't happen. They haven't done this in 10 yrs. and that's why they are all grown up in the lines. I have lived in this house for 25 yrs. and they have never once upgraded the lines. Almost everyone has heat pumps here now and it has to be hard on the lines. I do assume that they deteriorate over time. You're right about the stealing of the wires. They stole it about a mile away from me. Luckily, I already had my power restored. |
