Solon's Arthur Road Elementary School was Northeast Ohio's top-performing school on this year's state report cards, knocking off Cleveland's Early College High School for the top spot. The individual school rankings by Performance Index - a composite of scores on state tests for multiple subjects and grades - added to Solon's domination of regional results: Solon schools landed the #5, #7 #9 and #21 spots in the state's school ranking by PI.

The Avon Lake Marching Shoremen hosted several bands from around the area that not only showcased their sound but their moves as well. Rocky River, Clearview, Oberlin and Padua high schools were among the groups that attended the event.

This large field of rubble on Center Ridge Road on the western edge of North Ridgeville was once a thriving shopping center.

Lake Erie's algal blooms intensively studied on the water, and from space
Ohio Sea Grant research coordinator Dr. Justin Chaffin is in the middle of the maelstrom of harmful algal blooms, or HABs, erupting around Lake Erie. Intensively sampling the big lake waters from the Bass Islands to Avon Lake this week, Chaffin said it's too early to tell if the HABs around the Western Basin of Lake Erie will make a deep invasion into the Central Basin and the Cleveland area.

"With this $600,000, the Lorain County Brownfield Coalition will be able to assess former industrial sites that developers may have looked past due to perceived environmental issues throughout all of our communities," Lorain County Commissioner Ted Kalo said.
