Missionary work helped Baptist leader touch world

Joy Fenner was barely 21 when she became a church secretary.
In 1956, she left her hometown -- Avinger, Texas, population 500 -- for her post at First Baptist Church in the relatively big city of Marshall, where church officials prevailed upon her also to lead Girls' Auxiliary, an organization to educate Christian young women about missions.'I didn't know diddly squat about missions,' said Fenner, 72, of Garland. But she wound up becoming a missionary for 14 years and then serving a 21-year stint as executive director of Texan Woman's Missionary Union. Read more
