I'm surprised at how little coverage it got on national news.

Everyone I have talked to said they had not seen anything like the flood we just had.I certanly have neve seen anything like it in my lifetime.It will be a mighty long time before our road here in Douglaville are opened again,and it is hard to go anywhere still,because of closed roads.The worst most devistating is the people who lost their lifes and drownded in this deep water we had.My prayers go out to all of you who lost someone near and dear to you during this flood.

"Heck" if you thought that was bad? One of my co-worker's young sons lost his best friend during this Douglasville flood and drowned?

I own a second home in Austell, my cousin lived in the home at the time of flood. I was going to move their when I retired in one year. Nobody will help me because I did not live in the home, I live in another state at the time of the flood. Why does that matter I still have to pay the payment, the house is still 100% destroyed. I just have to walk away and loose the house. I cant afford to fix it. No insurance no FEMA help and I cant pay a loan on an empty house. its not fair that FEMA will not help my house.

If you are making payments - that would assume a bank loan. Last I checked - banks required homeowners insurance on a property or they could call the loan.

But regardless - you made the decision to not insure your home, now you will have to accept the consequences.

So either you are full of it, or you aren't telling the whole story here.

Or homeowners insurance doesn't cover floods if the home is not in the 100-year flood plain.(This was a 500-year event.)

Has anybody read this full article yet? It's really sad about Douglasville, ga.. We were lucky with no flooding or deaths here in West Cobb County.

I was so shocked to see all that water.I did think about the people who were in Katrina,and I was so afraid more bodies would be found here.We gave for Katrina,But did not really understand that very much untill,I saw all that flooding that we had.A dear lady friend of mine lost a grandson.I am so sorry for the loss of these lifes.But then I am thankfull that they did not have to count bodies in the large amounts,like in New Orlean.Maybe because of Katrina more people here left their flooded homes when they needed to.

This was Georgia's version of Katrina. Hopefully this won't happen again for a long time to come. Per the news, there are over 100 people still in the shelter with nowhere to go...that's a shame.

I believe this flood was comparable more to the flood in Albany, Ga. about ten years or so ago. Went down to help, took a wrong turn and almost drove off into a lake that used to be a rather large neighborhood. It was amazing!


And Sandra, I love you, and I don't say much about misspellings and such, but if you use the word "drownded" again, I just might be forced to say something bad about you. Please!!!

1994, Mike. I was down there helping out, too. Coffins were everywhere. Sooo sad, as they didn't know who's loved ones were in most of the coffins. At least we didn't have that situation here...that I heard about.

Ok, I hate to interject here but the word "drownded" is a widely used word in the English language whether you think it is correct or not. If you search the term on Google you will find many entries across the English speaking world where that word is used. Here's a good example of it being used in a song ...

It may be regional in its usage, but it is a widely used term. Sandra, you can speak of the drownded victims in here all you want. They won't mind.
