Gee, this is a big surprise! I'm sure we didn't expect GOVERNMENT to suport GOVERNMENT in a quest for more taxpayers' money. Good thing is, it's up to us now. Do we want a new jail which initially costs more than the county's annual budget, costs forcing increased taxes continuously, and which the county can't give a figure to, likely having criminals from other counties and the state housed right here in Douglas county, and more government upon the backs of the citizens? We have the opportunity to get all those things if we really want them; just vote for the Jail SPLOST.

the cities, YES..that would be the rest of the govt employes who DONT have to help pay the bill. They cheat enough out of the system to repay themselves for what taxes they apy..ie/drive city cars to vacations on city credit cards for gas, and expenses, and name it in the name of city business meetings..THE CITIZENS DONT BACK IT.and that is who is going to pay the bill.I suggest we tax the cops because they are the oones who is going to get anything out of it.If you eat it, then YOU pay for it.

Lets allow the CITY MANAGERS, ect. to pay for the building.I dont have a problem with it..ITs very easy to spend SOMEONE ELSES MONEY without any remorse.Lets hold someone responsible for , if it doesnt pay for itsself in x amount of time, the person in charge of the voting process or the voting panel will personally pay the note. That will stop some of the wasteful spending

The cities had no choice. The county told them there was no money for them.. The jail has gone from $87 million to $147 million. They have no plans, they have no studies, they have no cost estimates.

Mayor Mickey told the BOC "We have our own projects"

Mayor Joe told the BOC "Good Luck!" Not exactly an endorsement.

Villa Rica Mayor was not at the meeting.

Q. How much does a jail cost?
A. How much money can you collect from taxpayers over 6 years?=$147 million

Q. How much will the M/O cost be?
A. The construction cost represents 1/10 M/O cost over 20 years.

The next question is how much will we over pay Sherrod and Bernard and Bernard's buddies to do the administrative processing on the associated bonds. The jail is just a BIG pay day for the crooks in control of our county government. My whole family will vote NO to the coruption by voting NO to the SPLOST.

If they have to ask to spend it they are wasting it. The law provides them the rite to pay for what they need not what they want .So if they ask that means the laws do not give them the rite to spend it.Like the school board buying vaccant lots in town before they ask us about spending our tax dollars on that. They asked at last election we told them no.but what about all the lots they have already purchased before theey ask if they could spend school money that way. When do we get the money back they spent already with out your premission.check the tax digest to see how many lots in nice sub they already own .Douglas county school system ,not dounglas county land holding company. And when are the ones who said o.k. on buying said lots going to be charged with stealing your money. They have no rites to waste school money buying empty lots .Kids are suffering and they where buying lots. And your kids are selling candy bars to make the school's ends meet.

I was told Ken Bernard made $1.2 million on the last school bond. Wonder how much he'll make on the jail? Are we really going to continue giving this guy payouts? WTF!

The last thing we need in Douglas County is a new jail. We have more important issues...like over crowded schools with trailers and teachers being furloughed. The criminals should be the ones to pay the bill for the new jail, period. Our kids should come first and also the tax payers of Douglas County. I dont mind paying the extra one percent if we used the funds to repave our roads and build more parks which we really need especially in south douglas county. Vote No my friends and stop this corruption.

Nice to see someone else is getting the hang of this thing! You need to run for office, whomever you are.

My son spent a week in the jail 2 years ago for probation violation. I just asked him if it was overcrowded. He didn't think so. He said it was ok, bad enough that he never wanted to go back but not so bad that it was horrible! It was a great deterrent for him.:-) Like he said, It's not supposed to be a vacation!
I think our money could be better spent on other things.

The city of Douglasville never "Backed" the SPLOST! They told the county "Thank goodness we have our own projects". They cities were shut out of the 2009 SPLOST money. There was nothing they could do. I guess thanks a good thing considering the city "public saftey" building cost went from $4.5 million to $23 million in 12 months. Still no G.O. Bond on that project.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Aquarius

If you're still happily munching chocolates and all sorts of other goodies, you'll have to take yourself in hand at some point during the coming fortnight. Maybe you'll have to compensate for all the festive over-eating by taking more exercise or cutting back on the calories, or perhaps you'll decide that you can't delay giving up smoking any longer. As Mercury turns in your twelfth house of secrets, messages you receive at this time may be very subtle or contain hidden meanings meant only for your understanding.
