Slow growth for Maine's metro areas in 2013

Real GDP increased in 292 of the nation's 381 metropolitan areas in 2013, led by widespread growth in finance, insurance, real estate, rental, and leasing, nondurable-goods manufacturing, and professional and business services . . . real GDP for U.S. metropolitan areas increased 1.7 percent in 2013 after increasing 2.6 percent in 2012.

Trial begins for railroad sit-in protesters

Two people accused of trespassing on railroad tracks in 2013 are on trial at the same time but have different juries in Androscoggin County Superior Court. The protest followed the deadly train derailment and explosion in July 2013 in Lac Megantic, Quebec.

Students, faculty demand BoT meeting to move back to USM

Waldoboro man arrested in connection with Durham chase

A 35-year-old Waldoboro man is behind bars after leading Maine State Police troopers on a chase Sept. 2. Initially, police believed the former owner of a 1999 purple Chevrolet Tracker was involved in the chase, but the owner, Edwin Duquette, contacted police after seeing his photo on Facebook and in news reports to say he had recently sold the vehicle to a young man, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
