Howland dissembles, moves sawmill
“Ash is considered to be "the poor man's oak.”
Ron Howland, Jewell, has long been interest in working with wood. Recently he established a saw milling business.
During the 1970s and 80s Howland operated a saw mill in his hometown of Atwood, Kan. He recalls "Residents of the Atwood area thought I was crazy. There I was with a saw mill on the plains of Western Kansas where there weren't many trees."
However, Howland said he enjoyed operating the saw mill. He recalled taking his son Brad into the countryside to cut down trees for the mill. Because of the limited market for his wood, sold the mill and he became a contractor. Read more
