I do not think it is a good time to take action on a smoking ban.
If all casinos resorts do it nationwide then I say do it.
Lets keep all on a level playing field.

Interesting that the author(s) thought the term length of the council members significant enough to end with.

Just what AC needs a full smoking ban, while their biggest competion PA permits 50% smoking. and the CT indian casinos have NO restriction on smoking. A smoking ban would surly bury Atlantic gambling business.

(As per air quality researchers nationwide) Nicotine is the only unique or "trace" chemical in secondhand smoke. If you measured for formaldehyde, the carpet and other interior sources of formaldehyde would corrupt the test result, formaldehyde is formed naturally in our atmosphere due to photochemical oxidation. Benzene is given off from burning foods in the kitchen or diesel exhaust outdoors so again a false reading would be obtained. Therefore, nicotine is the ideal chemical to measure to determine secondhand smoke concentrations in the air. And then our comparison to OSHA guidelines is the logical manner in which to determine if secondhand smoke levels pose a health hazard, as you can see, according to OSHA, the authority on workplace safety, they do not.

If anything they should be increasing the smoking areas. 50-50 will bring in more gamblers and more revenue.

My wife and I won't step foot in any AC Casino until they go smoke free. We were both black card members at the Borgata. How dare smokers still think they can smoke wherever they please, what year is this anyway 1970?

ALL EMPLOYEES need to be protected from the potentially harmful effects of second hand smoke. NO EXCUSES!!!

Last October when they went smoke free for 10 days it was in the midst of the worse economic downturn and even after they delayed/postponed the smoking ban the casinos still lost money almost EVERY month since. Don't want to hear crap about the smoking ban caused the decline.
AC went and pissed off ALL the non-smokers by changing the smoking ban before it even started.
Most non-smokers DON'T want to inhale your smoking habit, don't they get it??? It's your F'n habit, keep it to yourself.

As far as I'm concerned AC can kiss my smoke free a$$ until they smarten up and finally go totally smoke free. I'll even compromise and let them put walls up to isolate the smokers totally from the non-smokers. But the majority of smokers have ZERO respect for anyone around them.

Why do the casinos cater to the 20% of the smokers anyway? Maybe because they are like shooting fish in a barrel, weak and easily addict to gambling too? Why don't they market to the 80% of the non-smokers that still have money. Economics 101 and the casinos obviously FAILED.

More important are the thousands of casino employees that deserve a smoke free environment. Why are they second class workers? ALL workers in NJ should be PROTECTED. NO EXCUSES THIS TIME!!!

WELL, i see this topic is going to stir up the ANTI-SMOKING GESTAPO
and the above mentioned comments are just the start.
Now lets see if my facts are coorect:
(1) We still live in AMERICA where we have freedom of choice = so
if you don't want second hand smoke then go play in the other 75%
of the CASINO, why would you even go near the smoking section are
you that obtuse that you cannot tell the difference?
(2) The casino's would be smart to keep a Smoking section because its been proven ( and check the PA casino records) that Smokers
are more avid gamblers because the smoking sections out earn the
nonsmoking sections hands down.
(3) The casinos'= at least the newer PA casinos have excellent ventilation systems and they have them turned on full blast so
you really don't even smell smoke from the person next to you.
(4) At least some of the casino workers know what will happen if
AC Bans smoking altogether - this coupled with the Winter months & competition will mean yet again they are subject to layoffs.
(5) Smokers are not criminals although you treat them like criminals
and smoking will not be banned in the US because the Government knows what a boon Prohibition in the 1930's was to organized crime,
and they won't take that chance again.
Sorry but you Anti-Smoking NAZI's have nothing usefull to contribute
and I wish you would not use this website until you learn to accept
the Freedom of choice issue , if not mind your own business and stay
out of the smoking sections.

Well put JArruda. I do not smoke but my wife does. She plays in the smoking areas, I usually try to stay close by in the non smoking areas.

The smoking areas are always packed and you know they get at least 10 times if not more play on these machines than those in the non-smoking areas.

You can't smell the smoke unless you are in or directly adjacent to the smoking areas. Give yourself 50 feet and you can't smell the smoke.

These non smoking nazis won't be satisfied until they ban smoking everywhere, even in your own home!

If you don't like the smoke, go in the 75% of the casino that does not allow it. Is it that difficult?

Eerrrr...Don...you do know Hitler loved smoking bans...right?

Also...the air certainly does not belong to you or any other control freak for that matter.

As for your silly paranoid claims of death via SHS...perhaps you have a few names of these so called victims?

Tell us oh self righteous one...would you be willing to apply your sides ridiculous standard of "no safe level" to all forms of indoor smoke that contain known carcinogens...or only to those you do not like?

There is nothing more annoying than a self righteous moral busybody with huge double standards.

yeah i agree with you all about the foolish smoking bans, wrong time and wrong argument, but I agree smoking is a dirty habit that's the smokers problem they have to deal with,
These moral busybodys want to run every aspect of our lives from the food we eat to the cloths we wear..let them stop sipping on wine filled with nitrates first, stop getting into other peoples business and stay at home if you want a smoke free zone, close your windows so you don't get carbon monoxide in your house and stop driving your Mercedes and ride a bike.

I have to say I really hate the term "level playing field" as to what it really implies.

It reminds me of sitting in school when we learned about Soviet communism and how the goal was for all citizens to be the same. That's certainly the best analogy I have concerning the "level playing field".

I hope they still teach Soviet history in the schools so children are informed about what life is like in these kinds of oppressive governments, but who knows if they do.

The "level playing field" is a PC and deceptive way to promote this kind of mindset.

The only thing that is level about the "level playing field" is the lot where a privately owned business once stood.

Non-smokers do.

It's the antis who want a plastic bubble world.
Don't know if they all need it from a physical standpoint, but they all sure do from a neurotic mental standpoint.

What I am stating is that when all casino resorts nationwide are required to ban smoking, then pass the law in AC.
This would make it fair to all the casino's nationwide.
