Work begins May 6 to replace and rehabilitate two structurally deficient bridges in Berks County.

A portion of Route 11/15 will be closed for most of the weekend in the West Fairview area while five miles of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Harrisburg interchanges will be closed for six hours on Sunday.

According to PennDOT, Markley Street will be reduced to one lane between Elm Street and Harding Boulevard on Saturday, April 27, while work crews install an underground drainage pipe 15 feet under the street.

The next stage in the Markley Street Improvement Project starts Monday, April 22, when PennDOT begins restoration of the Main Street Bridge, the historic stone arch bridge between Main and Astor streets spanning Stony Creek in Norristown.

The Freemansburg Avenue bridge, which spans the Nancy Run, could be reopened in one or two days, PennDOT officials said Tuesday afternoon.
