" One of Bertie County's smallest towns enjoyed a big celebration Monday night. The town of Askewville hosted its annual Christmas Tree Lighting program in front of the largest crowd in the event's history with more than 200 people in attendance.

Mayoral filings have highlighted the early activity during the registration period for municipal elections.

It is once again filing time for municipal elections in North Carolina. Elections offices in Bertie, Hertford and Northampton counties will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day, but will reopen Monday morning when filing will officially begin.

I had a blast from my past Tuesday night. For only about the third time in the last 20 years, I went to the Eastern North Carolina Assemblies of God camp meeting on Cooper Hill Road in Windsor.
