County advises against bathing at local beaches
Suffolk health officials are advising people not to go bathing at 62 beaches, including 11 in the Town of Huntington, after heavy rain hit Long Island and raised fears that bacteria will exceed state standards.

Northport High School fashion students put on a runway show of their work Tuesday evening at the public library. They were assigned to design clothes made of recycled materials -- used zippers, plastic or paper bags, paint samples -- or organic fabrics.

Students from Northport High Schools fashion design and illustration class have designed and produced garments from recycled goods such as newspapers, shopping bags, aluminum scraps and various organic fabrics. They take to the runway Tuesday night.
Asharoken, Northport agree to share services

Service for fallen Coast Guard officer
A memorial service was held in honor of Petty Officer 3rd Class Nathan Bruckenthal at Coast Guard Station Eaton's Neck on Friday. Bruckenthal, the son of the Northport police chief, was killed in action at the Khawr Al Amay Oil Terminal off the coast of Iraq on April 24 2004.

Northport closer to having a Web site
The village board voted on Tuesday night to agree to the Yahoo web-hosting terms of service, clearing the way for the site to go live next Tuesday, according to Trustee Henry Tobin. The site, with information about village government activities and services, has been under development by village resident Kelly Campbell.

Dredging under way for Asharoken beach
Efforts to improve the long-standing erosion problem at Asharoken Beach have begun. National Grid is dredging sand, according to the mayor’s office, stockpiling it on the power plant site in preparation for moving it to Asharoken Beach shortly.
