So its OK for others to have to cross Wharf road so that you don't have to? There are many of us who use the bridge to cross over to the 'mall' side of Capitola to access the library.
FYI, although it is called the "Capitola Library" it is a Santa Cruz County Public Library for both the Capitola and Soquel cities. Access to and from either site will mean that someone will have to cross Wharf Rd., and luckily there are crosswalks and Stop signs there. The Rispin site, however, sitting as it does on the river side, actually provides a safer access for schoolchildren - all of the local schools are sited beyond Bay Ave.- Soquel High, Main St. Elementary, Soquel Elementary, and New Brighton Middle - not to mention safer access to all of the elderly who live in the major senior building on Bay, and beyond.

In addition, the entrance to the Rispin Library site can be built at the Stop sign of Clares & Wharf Rd., making this a much more accessible and safer right-hand turn or left-hand turn, then the existing turns to enter the driveway of the current library location! That drive is on a blind curve, and forget about turning left there -

Here we go again!!! If our current library system can't maintain, why are we considering building any bigger satellite branches, SV or Cap or Felton? If you have money to throw at a new building, better to save it to keep your current one open!!
Ms. Landers, I hope you are reading OR are you just a puppet on a string, the string held by the builders & consultants who are even suggeesting this! Congrats on your new job but before you start clapping your hands at any new library structures, consider the ones we already have & do us all a favor to restore hours to already existing building.
All of you who think a new library will be sooo gravy, take a look at Boulder Creek's library, still brand new & CLOSED all but 12 hours a week!
What is the sense in this?
The library system isn't paying for the building, the City of Capitola is. They decided they wanted a library 12 years ago, and part of the agreement was they would build it, and the library would staff it. Those funds can't be spent on staffing the other branches for longer hours. Try doing a little research.

Seems someone always brings the poor school children into the mix. The school children have their own libraries and internet access, guess where, at school.

A new library, really? We cannot afford to pay the people who work there now, but we need bigger and better? Geez....government at it's finest!
Just a peek at what the new O'Bama health care system might look like.

Are you saying that the school library is the same quality as a county public library?

Forget the B&B and put the library at Rispin. Add traffic lights to the Clares/Wharf intersection. With some nice landscaping it could be a real gem and even a tourist attraction.

Oh if only I were as smart as you! Thank you, but I'm quite aware the library will staff it, but if the library is currently unable to maintain adequate staff in the current library, isn't building a new library banking on the current staffing which is on the fritz? My point is go build it, will there be money to staff it? Try thinking long-term.

Oh, please! I didn't say "poor school children." I merely pointed out a fact: the Rispin site is on the same side of Wharf Rd. as all of the schools, and thus the school children, it would serve! Yes, they do have facilities at their schools as well - but we are not talking about their schools or debating if public library services are warranted - we are discussing potential sites for a permanent library that Capitola has already decided to build!!!!!

Over long term do you meant the life of the building? I would guess that staffing will go up and down over the next 50 years.

Don't build the new library. How are you going to pay to staff it? Listen to me...THERE IS NO MONEY! Besides that fact, the library only has old books. Have you ever used one of the reference books and checked the publishing date? It's like 10 to 15 years old!!!! And, don't tell me that we'll just raise taxes to buy more, updated books, no one has any money. I'm sorry but a library is WANTED in Capitola, it's not NEEDED.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Gemini

Maybe it's pre-Christmas tension but people can turn nasty in the blink of an eye today. This is especially likely if they've got a lot on their plate or they think they're very important, and you may have to treat them with kid gloves if you want to avoid getting sucked into a bad-tempered war of words. Some gentle humor may help to rescue the situation before it descends into acrimony.
