If you really need a new library, please move to build on the current site. This only makes sense. By the time the library is built, the internet will only be more popular as a source for obtaining information and I predict people will have less and less use for a library. The question should be, "do we really need a new library" instead of "where will we put it".

The present trailer library was supposed to save the construction costs of a 'conventional' structure. Brilliant planning.

Yes -- the present Capitola Libary is small by why don't we start by **keeping it open 7 days a week**(along with the other branches) before we spend the dough to build a bigger one? Plus traffic (and parking) down at the wharf is horrible. Why not put it where residents can use it, rather than in a primo tourist location? I don't get it. Is anyone thinking at all????

If there was no free internet at the library would people still use it? How many people are doing research vs. checking their e-mail or going on some social network. It is a huge expense to serve only a few, not appropriate in our current financial situation. How about lowering the sales tax, that would benefit all.

Oh, I'm so thrilled. We really need a new modern state of the art library to get the kids off the couch and into the library.

The Capitola library seems fine to me. Why go to the expense of building a new one, especially in these hard economic times? Better to spend some money and keep it open 7 days a week so it can be utilized.

Finally the council works on something worthwhile for the community and stops dealing with Swenson. This library project is essential to our community as the present location was just temporary. Capitola is a community that will support a larger library and its about time. THe Rispin property should not be considered. it is not safe for our children and elderly to have to cross busy Wharf Road where people speed.

A new library, really? We cannot afford to pay the people who work there now, but we need bigger and better? Geez....government at it's finest!

I love the Capitola library where it is as is. Recently a small playground was built in front of it - I wonder how much that cost....Why improve the current site with this well-loved and used addition only to discuss moving 2 years later - wasteful. I agree with other posters; instead of spending money on remodeling or moving the branch across the street, I would prefer reopening the current library more days a week like it used to be.

Just a tremendous waste of money! Nothing else you can say about it but hey it's not the city's money, its the taxpayers money and there is no end to that right?

Here we go again!!! If our current library system can't maintain, why are we considering building any bigger satellite branches, SV or Cap or Felton? If you have money to throw at a new building, better to save it to keep your current one open!! Ms. Landers, I hope you are reading OR are you just a puppet on a string, the string held by the builders & consultants who are even suggeesting this! Congrats on your new job but before you start clapping your hands at any new library structures, consider the ones we already have & do us all a favor to restore hours to already existing building. All of you who think a new library will be sooo gravy, take a look at Boulder Creek's library, still brand new & CLOSED all but 12 hours a week! What is the sense in this?

Boulder Creek's library was built in 1985, twenty-four years ago, not exactly brand new. Additionally, until this past July it was open five days a week, six days from 2007, since 1997.

The Rispin site is a peaceful, beautiful and reflective site for a community library and gathering place. It is ideally located for school children to access as well as the community. How about Capitola prioritizing the needs of locals young and old by providing us with facilities that make the best use of our own natural surroundings? I vote for "Capitola Public Library at Rispin on the Soquel Creek, where Capitola and Soquel meet."

Every day after I finish working on line I pick up a book and head for the rocking chair. Nothing is more relaxing.(for me anyway) Now cable TV - that could go the way of the Dodo easily. Internet TV and movies are often free.

Apparently you aren't. The present, and future library, will be built in a residential area on Wharf ROAD, not the wharf. Not from here are ya?

So its OK for others to have to cross Wharf road so that you don't have to? There are many of us who use the bridge to cross over to the 'mall' side of Capitola to access the library.
