AV man suspected of workera s comp fraud Updated at

The San Bernardino County District Attorney's office announced Thursday a 68-year-old Apple Valley man who claimed he fell and injured his knee on his way to jury duty before filing for workers' compensation has been charged with fraud. According to DA officials, Scott Masters reported for jury duty at the Barstow courthouse in October 2010.

The NIMBY folks are at it again, this time mass-mailing a petition to mountain and high desert area residents urging them to oppose the proposed North Peak Wind Project, in which 71 500-foot-tall wind turbines would be placed atop a ridgeline north of Lake Arrowhead and south of Apple Valley. 3 Apple Valley women accused of abusing boy Updated at

Three Apple Valley women who were arrested after Sheriff's Department officials said they beat up their 12-year-old nephew at a birthday party are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in Victorville. San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Trish Hill said the boy's mother, Stephanie Blevins, 30, was arrested Monday in the 21000 block of Arapahoe Street.

Hesperia raises speed limits on Bear Valley Road

The Hesperia City Council unanimously approved a resolution to increase the speed limit on two sections of Bear Valley Road on Tuesday, just 24 hours after a speed-related fatal collision on the thoroughfare the city shares with Victorville. While the timing may appear ironic, the decision is the result of a speed survey conducted by a consulting firm in February with the aim of improving traffic flow and creating consistent speed limits.
