Very well said Mark. I knew this "song" made me angry and I couldn't quite put my finger on why, but you summed it up perfectly.

Johnny Van Zant is very good friends with kid rock so they are all happy with the outcome of the cool song. Johnny is fun he knows all about the song and if RVZ was alive hell he'd be cool with it too seeing as how much kid rock loves Lynyrd Skynyrd he'd think it was just a fun cool summertime song too. The Van Zants are fun hip cool people that keep up with the times johnny's still young he's 48 And Donnie's 56 they still are hip happening men that enjoy fun so it's all good to them still and hey they all will be rockin' as fun rebels on the tour.

If you don't like it don't listen to it. Your dislike of his song is not reason enough for you to call him lazy. Kid Rock is a true musician. The concert for Rock N Roll Jesus was awesome!

It's just that the song SUKS, like all of his works. His only decent performance was in Joe Dirt, as a loser, because he's tailor made for the role.

I believe that students should be encouraged and should be challenged in their interests. I agree with you that old ideas can be reinvented and brought to life in different angles. However, it seems to me that you are more closed minded than you may think and that you may tend to discourage your students more than you encourage them. Bob Ritchie is far from lazy and has proven himself time and time again. Thank goodness he didn't let his teachers discourage him from his dreams. If the song bothers you that much, maybe you should turn off the radio and try to attend some teacher’s conference on being a more positive teacher. Or better yet, try to enjoy summer a little and catch one of his concerts. You might be surprised by his many talents and all the energy he and his band put into his show!

I agree with the writer that the song is a display of laziness. Interestingly I read an almost identical article about a sampling of Nirvana's Smells like Teen Spirit by someone named Mark Durksin. I ask you, coincidence or laziness?

Mark - you're missing the point. This is entertainment, something that seems to be severely lacking in your life. You're offended that Kid Rock wove together a really great song? Perhaps you're jealous? You could step back and consider that nothing is really truly "original" as every book and idea is based somewhat on someone's previous experiences, many of which include reading books. Said books can affect people deeply, become woven into their very fabric, and core to who they are. Then, they write a story or novel themselves, and there are hints of similarities to other authors and texts. Isn't that what you English teachers always do, examine and re-examine books to death, often missing the fact that reading a book can be a simple act of enjoyment? I despised my high school English teachers because of this. Certainly, it's important to become familiar with different literary styles and techniques. But, in your article you talk about how Kid Rock's song becomes a "personal" issue to you. Dude, you've got to lighten up. Life is short. Music is meant to make you happy. Kid Rock has provided the best music I've heard since old school Aerosmith. It's so good, it gets in your veins. "All Summer Long" is a fun pop hit, his other stuff is even better. I wonder if critics are reviewing your work, ripping it apart to find out what is original and what isn't? Kid Rock has brought classic rock and roll, single handedly. In fact, we're going on a 800 mile roadtrip to see him perform in his hometown of Detroit. I'm sure you think we're hicks with no original thoughts, lazy folk who just re-use others' work. It's unfortunate that such elitist, empty folk are teaching our youth.

"Not a Pompous snob" got your number, professor. She is dead on. Music is music. You shoot a good load of criticism on Kid but he rocks. See Rock is even his surname! This song takes me back to my youth playing Mortal Combat 1 and Mortal Combat 2 and even Mortal Combat 3. Rock on Kid Rock.

God Bless you & i would be devestated if i found out one of my childrens teachers were slandering him in this way. I'd march to the front ofice and complain on the teacher we appreciate good southern rock music so i'm very passive and friendly unless you run down my music then i can get all upset trust me i defend it to the max!To be riduculed over our choice of music and then slandering the artist when kid rock in doing this actually reaps the benefits of receiving more fans since he truly can bring skynyrd fans as well as his fans near my age 30's and early 40's together. I'm 41 soon and love this music it's awsome.
