A new memorial to the almost 3,000 people who died in the 9/11 terror attacks should be open in upstate South Carolina next year. The Independent Mail of Anderson reports that ground was broken Thursday for the new $700,000 memorial in Walhalla.

Police: Man charged after sexually assaulting girl, 7

Police in Anderson said a man has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor following an incident involving a 7-year-old girl. Officers said Jose "Pep" Ahumada, 63, of Country Club Lane was charged after police were called to an address on South Main Street on Aug. 30, when the abuse was reported.

Anderson deputies are looking for a 24-year-old woman who they say was an accomplice to an armed robbery in which a man was pistol whipped and shot. Deputies said Porsha Welborn, of Liberty, distracted the 61-year-old victim while the man she was with threatened him with a handgun, forced him inside the house and struck him in the head with a pistol.
