<![CDATA[Gene R. Burris RICHMOND, Ind. - Gene R. Burris, age 80, of Richmond, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Reid Hospital. Born June 7, 1934, in Richmond, to Claude and Elizabeth McCartney Burris, Gene was a lifelong resident of Richmond. He was a 1952 graduate of Richmond High School and attended college for two years. Gene retired from the U.S. Air Force, after serving for 22 years, with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Award with one oak leaf cluster, and Accommodation Medal with one oak leaf cluster. Gene had been stationed in North Africa, England, Vietnam, Okinawa, Guam, and Korea. After the service, he worked at Belden and retired after 18 years of service. Survivors include his children, Richard (Gayle) Burris of Anderson, Indiana, Daniel (Amy) Burris of Richmond, Debra Burris of Greenfield, Indiana, and Claudia (Donnie) Middleton of Richmond; grandchildren, Richard, Meghan, and Elizabeth; cousins; nieces; nephews; and many friends. Gene is now reunited with his wife of 61 years, Wanda Burris, who died February 8, 2014; parents; and one sister, Ruth Hollis. Visitation for Gene R. Burris will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Baker officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, 230 West Monroe, Suite 200, Chicago, IL 60606.
