Nevada Highway Patrol accident investigators identified three of the four people killed in a fiery wrong-way crash on U.S. 95 Sunday evening.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will widen shoulders and flatten out slopes along sections of Highway 95 as a safety precaution, according to a 2013 work plan presented to Nye County commissioners here Tuesday.

Four people, including two children, were killed in a two-vehicle accident on US 95 late Sunday evening, 10 miles outside of Amargosa Valley.

A late amendment to a bill mandating universal background checks for gun purchases in Nevada has given the effort renewed life in the state Legislature.

The state's Committee on Local Government Finance Thursday scolded Nye County officials for being late on submitting the 2011-12 fiscal year audit and for government departments exceeding their budgets.
