Spirit Lake woman order to pay $400,000 in restitution
A northwest Iowa woman who pleaded guilty to stealing from an after-school program must pay back about $400,000 she spent on vacations, a car and payments to herself and family members.

Theresa Te Slaa, 77, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at her home in Rock Valley. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Netherlands Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. The Reverend E.C. Adams officiated.
Theresa Van Grootheest was born November 8, 1930 to Maas and Rolena (Driesen) Van Grootheest northwest of Rock Valley. Theresa was united in marriage to Bernard Te Slaa on March 8, 1950 on the homestead. Together they farmed near Alvord and lived in the Hull area until moving northwest of Rock Valley in 1968. They moved into Rock Valley in 1995. Theresa worked at Hope Haven as a caregiver in a group home and was a foster parent in their own home. Read more
