He was born in Altoona, son of Aloysius and Mary Leiden. He married Sally A. May on April 27, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona.

Surviving are a son, David of Leander, Texas; a granddaughter, Kinley Rae Sartain; and six siblings: Steven G., James P. and G. Edward, all of Pittsburgh, Joseph L. and Robert W., both of Wilmington, N.C., and Suzzanne Savad in New York.

Ridgway Eagle Scout to help raise support for service dogs

Legislation allows Act 47 cities to triple service tax
A bill set for the state Senate this fall - and backed by Rep. John McGinnis, R-Altoona, and Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr., R-Blair - would open a legal path for financially distressed cities like Altoona to triple a service tax on anyone working in the city.
