Trial date set for man in toddlers death

A man who allegedly kicked his 2-year-old niece in the abdomen that it severed her intestine, causing her to die, is scheduled to go to trial July 11, a judge said Monday. Armando Abundis Sr., 34, of Alhambra is charged with murder, child abuse and assault on a child resulting in death in the slaying of Sarah Angelina Chavez, 2, the niece of his wife, Frances.
