Danielle Chiesi, the 47-year-old securities analyst who pleaded guilty to securities fraud in the biggest U.S. insider-trading crackdown, is back in town.

Stonewall Resort will celebrate the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day with a six-mile hike, starting at 9 a.m. June 1. Stonewall Resort general manager Mike Hager said participants may walk, run or bike at their leisure in the noncompetitive event.

The Town of Alderson and many other supporting organizations are sponsoring the first Alderson BridgeFest to open the outdoor season on Saturday, May 18.

On this day, April 30, in 1927, the first three prisoners entered the first federal prison for women in Alderson, W.Va. The Federal Industrial Institution for Women was opened officially in 1928 to reform the wives, girlfriends, mothers and sisters who harbored the gangsters from the Prohibition era.

School officials say the name change reflects the efforts being taken in Philippi to expand the scope of the educational offerings.
