A strong winter storm developed over the northern and central Plains on Thursday, delivering low temperatures and heaps of snow that blew, drifted and limited visibility.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms stretched from the upper Great Lakes to the lower Mississippi Valley, none severe.

It rained in the Northeast, with the heaviest showers reported over Boston. The Pacific Northwest also experienced rain showers ahead of an advancing warm front.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from 1 degree at Alamosa, Colo., to 86 degrees at Weslaco, Texas.
