Nothing like bringing in an outsider to run the place, GOD forbid we go with someone who knows the community and it's needs. Say someone who lives here already.

Alamo has not needed a city manager for over a year. Why do we need one now?
Use that money from his salary to hire a fireman and fill in some pot holes.

Actually bringing in an "outsider" might be a good idea. A person from the outside will have fresh ideas that may actually bring Alamogordo into the 21st Century!

Bringing in new ideas is not hard to do. Getting them accepted is another issue. And woe be any good idea that runs afoul of the special interests surrounding the commissioners. Were this an AMEN moment where the city was just begining and the commissioners were all new and the city manager was new, it would be fantastic. The new guy will need a clear majority of support from the commissioners to be effective.

True enough. Any new person with all the best intentions has to go through a LOT to get anything done.
