“Nothing they do surprises me anymore”
Since Karl Leitzel's brothers joined him in pursuing art on a more serious level, the tone of their Friday family dinners changed. There's a lot less criticism these days, he said.
The three brothers recently decided to have a joint art show, a first for the trio. They hung their pieces in Millheim's Elk Creek CafA© and Aleworks, where they will be displayed until May 4. A 'Meet the Artists' event will take place Sunday.
None of the brothers received formal art training, but artistic expression was part of life growing up in Aaronsburg. Both of the boys' parents were talented at drawing and painting, and Tina, the wife of middle brother, Warren, remembers him as 'the artistic one' in high school. Read more

Storm cuts power, causes crashes
A storm that brought up to 3 inches of snow and sleet to the county also resulted in some slick roads, leading to a crash that knocked out power Friday evening to 150 residences of western Ferguson Township.
No one was injured when a driver lost control of a vehicle on an icy state Route 45, between Tadpole Road and Deibler Road, west of Pine Grove Mills.
The vehicle struck a utility pole, bringing the pole and wires down across the roadway and knocking out power to about 150 households. Read more

AARONSBURG -- Shoppers looking for bargains in arts and crafts with a genuine homemade feel can find great buys at the 2007 Dutch Fall Festival in Aaronsburg.
The festival, sponsored by the Aaronsburg Civic Club, will wrap up at 5 p.m. today.
The festival features booths and tents set up throughout the town with many items --from potholders and quilts to jewelry and antiques -- for sale.

Aaronsburg to honor heritage with festival

Aaronsburg residents will celebrate their Pennsylvania Dutch heritage with food, crafts and music this weekend at the 32nd annual Dutch Fall Festival.
The festival, which will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, is a celebration of Pennsylvania Dutch food, crafts and history. A variety of art, craft, food and antique vendors will be present. On display will be various exhibits featuring military artifacts, vintage women's clothing, early farm and home tools, and vintage signs from local businesses of the past. Read more
