Supporters of Canadian on death row in Montana angry at Stockwell Day's 'double standard'
“We will not actively pursue bringing back to Canada murderers who have been tried in a democratic country that supports the rule of law”
- The Canadian government is being hypocritical by pleading for the life of one Canadian citizen facing beheading in Saudi Arabia while abandoning another who sits on death row in Montana, say supporters of the man in the U.S. prison.
Ronald Smith, originally from Red Deer, Alta., pleaded guilty in 1983 to the execution-style murder of two cousins who picked him up while he was hitch-hiking. Although he originally asked to be put to death, he later changed his mind and has been fighting his death sentence for over 20 years. Read more
