The ATA ever ready to promote the agenda of it's members ( who own large fleets, but more of whom own companies providing parts and materials for new truck manufacturers..LOL but who represent none of the millions of small trucking companies who carry most of the freight mved even tho they own 5 or less trucks) statrts with the assumption that supply and demand is driving the cost of fuel up even though deisel useage is DOWN 15 percent this year from last.

They promote a lower national speed limet and they have been bsy cutting the speed of thier company trucks. Independent owners have been working on saving fuel for years, some who have trucks geared for it have reduced speeds long ago without a national speed limit.( I own my own truck which has NO governor and yet has averaged 52 mph for the last 2 years.

Thier even better proposal is to mandate bigger trailers and heavier loads so that they can stuff even more per truck in each unit. They would have you think SAFETY and concern for fuel useage is the reason they have trotted out the same arguments for more weight and bigger trailer in a hiway infrastructure built to handle 45 foot long trailers at 72, 280 pounds that now has 53 ft trailers at 80,000 pounds and is showing a drastic increase in needed maintanance.

What will these greedy big fleet owners choose to use for an arguing point next in thier quest to haul bigger and longer trailers at more and more weight...

The OOIDA had 160,000 plus DRIVERS and truck owners compared to the ATA's 0 drivers and 50 trucking company owners... BUT of course they have the larger pocket book from all thier non trucking members.... who would benefit from all those new equiptment sales...
