This is worse then 1973. It was bad, too, but this time the country has very little industry left,(thanks to nafta), construction is way down, and the government is nearly broke, as are most of the people. No amount of "turn off the air conditioner" is going to make up for the high fuel prices. Thanks, Saudies, we saved your butts in gulf war 1, and now your stabbing us in the back. Time for the US to start taking care of the US, we no longer have money to take care of the rest of the world.
