Convoy to Circle City!

We are planning a convoy in April to the State capital. Please keep checking back for updates! We want to make our voices heard and present a professional, unified, convoy of truck owners and drivers. Congressman Brad Ellsworth is working with us to get Congress on the bandwagon. He has met with the Small Business Administration and the Transportation Secretary to ask for immediate hearings about soaring fuel and truck prices, low rates and the adverse affect on safety. We have asked the Congressman to ride with us in April and he is currently looking into that possibility. The convoy is planned for the 18th. We plan on starting in Cloverdale and driving to downtown Indy. We will have the Indiana State Police helping us to keep this as orderly as possible.

We do not want any negative or unprofessional actions. That would only further degrade our image to the public. Please email if you want to join our convoy and I will keep you updated on any new developments. Talk to everyone you can. Let’s send 1,000 trucks to the circle!!!

I have to say the strike did get alot of media coverage, But I don't think it was organized well enough to get something done.

I am a company driver I have been driving since 1991. I do have to say I am feeling hit in the wallet as well, my company has told us, we will be have our speed cut back due to the cost of fuel. We were told that our customers want the company to find other ways to cut cost to run our company. That will mean we wont be getting a a raise anytime soon.

If you really want to get these company drivers involved, they will need time to build up hometime so they dont have to feel like they will be fired for participating. Alot of these companys have hometime policies set up to where it is 1 day off for every week that they are away from home up to 4 days off. I would say set a new strike date to begin april 28th and make it last the entire week. But these company drivers need to be able to build up hometime to participate in shutting down. I know alot of them want to see changes in the price for gas and deisel just as well as the independents do, it is taking a toll on everybody.

This past friday it was said 60 drivers went to the capitol of WV and protested for 3 hours. These were drivers from logging and coal companys. Can you imagine these coal companys shutting down because of fuel cost. I mean they take the coal from the coal mines to the power plants to produce our elcetrcity. These drivers in these coal companys grew up riding with their fathers from the coal mines to the power plants, to learn the trade.

Now imagine a major carrier running the coal from the mines to the power plants. These drivers from the major carriers would need hands on training to do this because they need to understand what it takes to do it safely. There is more to this, than running with a coal bucket trailer.

They would have to understand the safety that has to go in to dumping a load, what kind of ground to be on when they do, etc. What a chore that would be to teach these drivers from the major carriers to run coal. I know I dont want their jobs, and alot of these guys from the major carriers are just learning how to drive to start with.
There is not a shortage of supply. With several of these large companys down sizing their fleets and other companys going out of business and quite a few onwer operators going out every day, their cannot be a shortage. I don't see it.

I was hoping that this "strike" would actually do some good, but here in TN, I don't see it happening, because MOST of the trucks are still running. It HAS to be a nation wide strike with ALL trucks striking for it to actually do any good. I have read in other states where good things are happening with trucks, but it has to be ALL trucks for it to do ANY good in all of the US. I will continue to keep our "wonderful" truckers in my thoughts and prayers..........

For organizing in your own state go to

www.theamericandriver.com

Click enter and go to the right upper corner and click on Truckers and Citizens Unite.

This is not as hard as it seems if we just have some unity and people willing to take a stand for the country that many of our young people died for and are still putting their lives on the line for.

America was defined by unity and it is time to get back to that.

Hey All, i'm not a trucker, but I am a consumer from Canada and I support your endeavour. I wish the Canadian truckers would do the same and you could have a north american standoff. We have to unite on this because we are all affected. It is down to whether you put gas in the tank or buy food (or pay the rent/mortgage) while big business eats steak, vacations in the bahama's and drive high polluting vehicles. Pretty soon we will all be broke and BROKEN (they will break our spirit unless we DO SOMETHING NOW!) Power to you all!!!!

What we as truck drivers need to do is on the next long weekend organize the Canadian and the American owner operators to strike 2 days before the long weekend and one day after the long weekend. That will run the food terminals in all major cities out of food which in turn will run the stores out of food. That will run the service centres out of fuel and factories out of parts. When there is no food, no fuel and no jobs people will take us seriously and address the problems. The Ontario government is going to pass a law that all Ontario trucks and any truck entering Ontario must be governed at 60 miles per hour. All U.S. drivers are going to start being charged a tariff to come into Ontario and all Ontario (government owned) service areas for trucks are being shut down. We have been told by government offices that owners operators have no rights in Ontario. We are not eligable for Workers Compensation but we must carry private insurance in case we get hurt. We are not entitled to unemployment or welfare if we are out of work being we are owner operators and have a valid AZ license and our tax credits were cut to the minimum this tax year. All we are asking is for 100% of the fuel surcharge which should go to the person paying for the fuel anyways and a fare dollar for the job that we do. The Ontrio government puts us on the same level as the family farmer they don't want them and they don't want owner operators in Ontario. We need to stand together or we are just going to continue to be taken advantage of until it gets the point where we loose our trucks and homes.
