It began while talking about Chance Rodgers, a 12 year old boy who has bone cancer.

I made a challenge on Dales' show that if 500 knitted or crocheted hats were donated to the cause, I would have my head shaved again at the MATS show.

As you may have heard Leland Martin is going to give a live performance in the Poppa Johns Stadium parking lot Thursday evening of the truck show... It will include a passing of the hat for Chance Rodgers.

If by the end of that concert we have received ( Or Coleen Sims at Gulf Coast filters has received) 500 hats, the shaving will begin.

Untrained truckers busted

CHARLES TRAINOR JR./MIAMI HERALD STAFF Florida Highway Patrol auxiliary officer Carlos Gimeno arrests Jesus Luis Montesino in his home on Friday morning.

If you wanted to be a trucker but didn't have time for the training, Steven Baez was your guy.

The sergeant with the Army National Guard had a stack of vouchers (form DA-348E) that excused wannabe drivers from taking the state of Florida's commercial vehicle competency exam. He sold them to South Floridians for up to $4,300 a pop.

And then he got busted. Now his customers are being taken off the road.

In a series of predawn raids Friday throughout Miami-Dade County, federal state and local authorities busted five bleary-eyed truck operators. Two more were arrested later in the day.

AT LEAST 200 SOLD

Many more arrests are coming. Cops say Baez, who pleaded guilty to the scam and faces sentencing on Jan. 16, sold at least 200 of the vouchers.
