Rust Belt clamors for fix, gets rhetoric
“Until a few years ago, you could make a good living without a college education”
The rusted carcass of the Republic Steel mill still stands watch over the Mahoning River, its skin faded by rain and snow, a winter wind blowing through long-shattered windows.
Presidential candidates come to stand in its shadowin this once-humming capital of the steel industry to criticize outsourcing, attack trade deals and court the workingclass voters of a city that doesn't work nearly as much as it used to.
It is a ready-made backdrop that Democratic rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both employed last week as they kicked off their Ohio primary campaigns. Read more
