RBS rolling back the outsourced IT at ABN AMRO

The Dutch financial newspaper "Het Financieele Dagblad) reports that the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is ending the outsourcing deal that ABN AMRO has started a few years ago.

Royal Bank of Scotland, one of the buyers of the Dutch ABN AMRO Bank, will take the ICT staff back onto their own pay-roll. The main reason for this decision is that in the culture of RBS, ICT is seen as being too critical to outsource.

Fortis, one of the other buyers of ABN AMRO, is also concidering rolling back the outsourcing agreements, although they have not yet taken a formal decision.

Bangalore bomb blasts kill one

Seven small bombs have exploded in the south Indian city of Bangalore, killing a woman and wounding at least 15 other people.

Bangalore, known as India's Silicon Valley, is one of the world's most prominent centres for software development and is also the capital of its outsourcing industry.

Also nicknamed the "world's back office", it is home to more than 1,500 top firms, including India's Infosys Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro, and offices of global firms such as Microsoft Corp and Intel Corp.

Some IT firms, as well as schools, colleges and cinemas, closed after news of the blasts broke. Phone lines were jammed.
