Dynegy Swings to 3Q Profit

“The increased scale and scope of our generation portfolio resulted in significantly greater power generation sales volumes in all of our regions.”

Power producer Dynegy Inc. said Thursday it swung to a third-quarter profit, lifted by better-than-expected business at its power generation unit and the sale of a power plant.

The company earned $220 million, or 26 cents per share, in the three months ended Sept. 30 versus a loss of $69 million, or 14 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.

The most-recent quarter included a $110 million after-tax gain on the August sale of Dynegy's CoGen Lyondell plant in suburban Houston to electric utility PNM Resources Inc. Read more
