Firm denies it OK'd sex offender to work at school

STAMFORD - A hiring agency denied yesterday that it gave a convicted sex offender permission to work as a custodian at Newfield Elementary School this month.
Spherion Corp. said it was completing a criminal background check on the applicant and did not give him the go-ahead to enter the school Nov. 14.
In a letter to parents Nov. 21, schools Superintendent Joshua Starr said he wanted to address parents' concerns 'about a (false) report that a registered sex offender was working as a temporary custodian at Newfield School.' Read more
