Samsung Cuts Sales Forecast

Samsung Electronics Co. trimmed its sales forecast for this year on global economic woes, but said profit will increase, helped by earnings growth in key areas such as memory chips, flat-panel displays and mobile handsets.

Samsung aims to raise its 2008 sales by 10 percent on year, Yun said, without providing specific figures. The forecast is lower than the 15 percent on-year increase it projected in January. Read more

BacTech terminates proposed merger with Scorpio Gold because of weak markets

“On this basis, subscription agreements for the fundraising were drawn up, however BacTech recently advised it was not prepared to announce and proceed with its financing at this time, leading to the termination.”

BackTech said Wednesday that among other things, the TSX Venture Exchange required a working capital infusion of $4 million into the combined company before it would approve the merger.
