Want Windows XP? You Can HAVE It!

Hopefully you read that title the way Steve Ballmer probably meant to say it on Thursday. You know, emphasis on the "HAVE" in a sarcastic way. Although I'm sure he didn't say it that way, he probably wanted to.

Speaking at a news conference in Belgium, where he was to announce the establishment of an "innovation center" in the Belgian city of Mons, Ballmer gave XP fans a little hope.

The consumer base has spoken, and it's all been said. Win98 was a great leap forward over Windows, and XP was also a long step forward. Vista is a product that has no clear advantages for the average user and has given a lot of folks trouble with hardware obsolecence, hard disk space, and functionality. A cynic might think that the primary intent of issuing this product was to enhance the sales of new computers.

Windows XP was the ONLY stable and successful Windows operating system Microsoft ever created. If you couldn't figure XP out, PCs are not your thing.

Try a Mac or something.

anybody know how to get a worm out of a computer that says it's from microsoft and is a spyware protection program but it does not allow you to do anything but pops up constantly and renders your computer useless? Don't worry I'm using my computer at work to write this and it's my home computer that's infected.
Thanks

If you have a backup disk it may get rid of your problem.

Put your disk in and follow the prompt.
This has saved my PC twice.

Try doing a restore to a point approximately a week before you noticed this problem. There are plenty of free root kits and spy/ad removal software on the web. The most effective but most time consuming way is to save all of your data to a removal drive, make sure you have all of your software on CDs & license keys, then reinstall from scratch.

Microsoft needs to get the kinks out of their OS's before putting them out on the market!!! I'm going with a Linux distro next time around.

If you are running XP you should have system restore functions. Restore to a date prior to your troubles. If the system restore was disabled by this worm, you may be able to restore using safe mode. Just a suggestion.

I've been using Vista for about 7 months. It is a total different system for me. I used the a ME system. Vista works great after a few trials and errors.

Windows 98 2nd edition was also a good operating system. XP is the 2nd good system they produced. Still, I'll be waiting for a good 3rd system before I will upgrade. Vista just isn't it.

If you have XP you are already doing fine. AVOID VISTA. It sux totally. Your computer will continue to run on XP. Microsoft will just stop writing fixes for the problems that continually arise due to their incompetent programming.

Haven't you crawled from under your rock yet? Vista is crap, I wasted my hard earned cash on that forgery and there's not much you can do with it at all; just a pretty picture.
XP has been around long enough to learn the tricks and gimmicks to keep it functioning, those who are new at computers need some time to learn about XP and forget about Vista.

Download a free copy of Lavasofts Ad-Aware SE software. I suffered the exact same problem and this program got rid of it.

I have no problems with XP except that I still think the DOS approach was better than the Windows approach. The less crap you put in programs the fewer flaws it has and the less able people are to exploit those flaws.

Agreed. I still have multiple machines running 98SE because I have DOS programs that I still use (for engineering testing & the like) that don't work very well on XP (XP's biggest weakness, for me.) But, otherwise, I got to liking XP pretty well, and it's been RELATIVELY trouble free, for me. Now, when I went out to get a new laptop, it came with Vista, and while it runs ok for casual use, e-mail, etc.,(once I added more RAM -- so much for the laptop being a "good deal") there are a lot of problems when you get beyond "typical consumer"uses. Plus, the constant asking for confirmation of this or that, and the barrage of updates needed almost every day when you log onto the web is a pain in the rear. The latter especially if you have to fall back on dial-up very often -- HOW BIG is that update??????????

I like my Windows 95! Microsoft can keep their Windows XP. Besides nobody wastes their time writing virus's for Windows 95. Microsoft has gone down hill since Windows 95. Windows 95 was top notch classic, you could tell when you loaded it and it explained what it was doing. It really gave you a comfortable feeliong that you had just purchased the best product available. Those old time programmers really knew what they were doing.

Yep, that's why some of my engineering stuff is still on 98SE machines running like lightning under DOS!

You sound like you might be the sort of person who has written a batch file or two recently!!!
Friend!!!
