Southwest Airlines Co. , the only big U.S. carrier that's still profitable, said second-quarter net income increased 15 percent as fuel contracts bought in advance helped protect it from rising prices.

Cookin' them books! Ya Think??

Absolutely. Cookin' em to hide a ton of earnings! Look at their balance sheet change over the last 6 months. They're about fat enough to buy the whole industry again. Gotta buy back some more of their own stock?

Man!!!!!!!!!!Look at those profits soar! Gotta get me some of that action!

Sooner or Later, they will FALL jus as hard.. 2010 and 2011 is right down the road, they wont have the fuel hedging like how they have now, and when they fall, THEY'LL FALL HARD.. Welcome to the Airline Industry Southwest

Fall Hard?? Maybe, Maybe not. Southwest is not managed like AA, UAL, etc. They might be just fine especially if fuel prices level off. |

Are you crazy!!!! They are not buddy with the F.A.A. Don't be jealousy of Southwest because they have employees that cares. |
Uhhhh ...Employeees that Care About What?...None Stay long Enough to Reach Top Out Pay |
Employees like you are the reason why airlines are in such deep trouble. Worry about making top dollar and not the future of your career. At WN, actually employees do stay longer and advances to top position. Employees at other airlines brainwashed by the union don't last long because all they care about is more money. |

Hey eRIC. You must have not followed the FAA/Southwest news the past year.
As far as my jealousy (I assume you meant jealous) goes I actually admire much of what Southwest does from a management standpoint. Of course they do not have to fly the Atlantic or Pacific so they can rely on one type of aircraft, parts, training etc. and that makes a big difference. By the way, they are highly unionized. And, I am not crazy. Not certifiable at least. |
That care about our company and its management. Unless you work for the company you know nothing about our culture and why it works. |

No ACARS, No IFE, No Maintenance!

If they are making all of this money then why are they not selling lower priced tickets and passing the savings on to the flying consumer?
Uh, because they are a FOR PROFIT BUSINESS. You know, Capitalism, making a living, providing a return for shareholders etc.. It seems like airlines are the only business that the public doesn't deem it acceptable to make a profit. |

Assumming that they are not hedging against fuel now, and in 2011 when jetfuel is $12/gal and SW is paying $4gal.....
How ridiculous is that statement? Maybe because they are planning on survival in the future when the fuel hedging is gone. |

SW has the lowest fares of all the airlines, and the biggest profits. What exactly is your point?
Imagine how much their profit would be if they only made as much as a United 747 crew. Actually, keep the pay up boys, we need something to shoot for!;)
