Flight attendant accused of setting fire on airplane

“Rojas further stated that he was preparing his cart to serve the passengers, he set the cart up, went back to the lavatory and reached in with his right hand and lit the paper towels with the lighter”

FARGO, N.D. - A 19-year-old flight attendant angry at having to work a route set a fire in an airplane bathroom, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing, authorities say. via KAAL

You do get what you pay for. Remember the IAM guys in Boston and JKK (pre paycut and pre AMFA) who were arrested and sent to prison for pilfering credit cards being sent air cargo. And don't forget the IAM guy in BOS who murdered his wife while a work (his buddies punched him in and swore he was there). While you are at it remember the IAM guy who murdered his IAM lady supervisor at work because he thought she was going to testify to the grand jury. Everyone in BOS knows who he is but never was arrested. You certainly do get what you pay for, but somtimes it is a supprise.

That's very true ENF. I also believe that 'most' 19 year olds aren't mature enough to cut through the stress of the f/a occupation. Maybe it's difficult to hire someone over 21 at that pay scale?

and to ong about getting what you pay for, i am talking about two different occupations with supposedly very different abilities.

In the other thread about this, Wino was blaming poor Maintainence as usual for the problem. Shows how little he checks facts before coming to a wrong conclusion. Oh well it's the malcontents, what do you expect?

You know, I kinda hated being stuck with red-eyes every month. Never really thought of setting a fire though.

I need to think or plot with more creativity.

Kind of off topic but I remember the Susan Taraskiewicz murder pretty well. Happened in 1992 she was an ESE lead who went out to get subs for her crew and never came back. I worked in MSP at that time and one of my co workers brother was a Mass state trooper and he said they didn't just kill her they OVER killed her. Don't really know if she knew anything about the credit card scheme going on but that one guy really had it out for her. I am really surprised they couldn't pin anything on him. BOS ramp at that time was a real cess-pool thats for sure.

It's a terrible job for the pay and everyone in the airline industry is making little-to-no money. I'm surprised there isn't more of this. Rates need to be increased and the profit needs to be spread to the workers that have been constantly overlooked.

The way the job is now is psychological torment, the type some zoo animals face, day in, day out. Combine the strain with jet lag, lack of sleep, and no stress relief available and, well, you have a 19 yr old who pops himself out of the job and hopefully lands in a better place.

Gotta tell ya freebird, there is very little jet lag on a leg from Minneapolis to Regina, Sas. This 19 year old has definitely "popped himself out of a job" and hopefully, in the hands of a jailer in a federal prison.

There is nothing that stopped him from not going to work that day, and just walk away from this very tormenting job where the working conditions are not unlike what zoo animals face. Instead, he decided to murder the passengers and crew of an airliner by causing a fire on board.

No excuse!

Well remember you're just going by what a newspaper says .. and Compass / NW (hallowed be their names). Hiring 19 yr olds and subjecting them to enormous stress is another failure step in the airlines .. combined with turnover .. leading to what must be the world's most transparent farce, the idea there's "security" in the airports and on the planes.

Anyways .. why don't they have psychological testing?($$$?)

I hate to generalize, but tend to agree that most 19 year olds are ill equipped mentally to handle a physically and mentally stressful job within an airline. I think I'm making pretty decent money for the work I do as a Flight Attendant, but then again, I work for a Canadian airline that does pay me fairly.

What stress? There are 19 year olds in combat and you think being a flight attendant should be enough to drive them over the edge?

Dude, you need to get a grip.
