Why don't the airlines pool together and fight for fuel costs to lower? Seems rediculous that all airlines, trucking companies and other transportation companies are taking a beating but yet no one is standing up while the american tax payer is the one ending up the most hurt.

PLEASE SOMEONE, LETS GET TOGETHER AND FIGHT FOR LOWER FUEL COSTS!!!

There is only one sure fire way to lower the cost of something. Lower the demand. We really need to get serious about moving away from oil in areas that there is a alternative.

Or like some countries do, not drive a car, truck, bus, airplane, lawn mower, moped etc.... for one day! Only one day! A week would drop 'em.

It look's to me like the 'New Business Model' of a DAL/NWA Marriage is off to a rocky start, their total value was $17.4 Bil.; today they both lost $10.54 Bil. of that value, which leaves roughly $7 Bil. in the checking account. Wall Street will not prop-up a loosing proposition, and will demand a higher degree of financial over-site from these 2 CEO's who gamble with OPM's.. If this shot-gun wedding procedes ahead, it will be done in BK COURT (round #2), presided over by our beloved Judge Allan L. Gropper... and Dougy will not Pass Go, will not collect $8.6 Mil., but go Directly To Jail... LOL !!

Talk to the over paid pliots since the rest of the people that work for the airlines loose there job. Everything for the pliots, and lets not forget the board and the Ceo package.

All the legacy carriers need to just shut down and watch the aftermath of citizen and corporate unrest. I mean if the airlines are such a neccesity to our economy then the airlines need some fuel subsidies to keep them viable. If they can't do that then they need to keep there noses out of the airlines business and let them merge down to a number of airlines that can sustain a profit. They all watched the oil, steel and other industries that were in trouble consolidate down to three major players. Why are the airlines any different? Why do they think these potential mergers need more scrutiny?

Even better..make everything shut down for a day..like things used to be..close EVERYTHING down at 3 pm on Sat and nothing reopens until 8 am on Monday..everyone would be forced to stay home for a change or..if they wanted to travel..stock up on Sat..I know it wouldn't ever happen..the big corps would crap if they wre forced to do that..but just thing how much we could save by shutting down for 1 day a week..may be that sounds dumb..oh well

I believe the problem here is that the compensation for Doggie and Dicky were not high enough.. The board needs to reconsider and at least double there pay and incetives to bring them up to par..I think then we all will see the red ink go away..

What a great merger these two will make!!!! If this merger goes thruogh then I guess I will give my house, car and bank account to a DL employee and then I can be just like my old employer NWA. Maybe I'll rack up a whole bunch of debt first and then file backruptcy and have all the hard working americans pay off my borrowed funds. What a country! After I have all of you pay off my debt I'll just go in more debt and do it all over again. Why can't our wonderful justice system put a stop to this nonsense and if you file.....you are done, out of business. Then maybe DL and NWA would have thought twice before making, behind doors, dirty, tricky and just plain wrong choices. Are laws are set up for corperations to take advantage of. I guess I'll move to India or Mexico to find a job in a few years. See you all there.

Northwest Airlines would never have gotten into financial if a jack*ss like Al Checci never got involved. The end of a good, stable airline. You reap, what you corporate raiders sow....

Actually, when Checchi and Wilson came along, everyone thought them a Godsend. The other "corporate raider" waiting in the wings (no pun intended) was Marvin Davis. Folks seemed more afraid of what he would do than Checchi and Wilson. The options were not that good where buyers were concerned and NWA was a big fat cherry, waiting to be picked. When someone offers $120+ dollars a share for an airline, it's hard to turn down.

Everyone knew they are corporate raiders, looking to make themselves millionaires by the time they are 45 or so. The Gov't should've never allowed the sale to take place. The airliner was a stable company, and they ripped it to hell, and laid it all to waste. Nobody thought they were a Godsend. Most could see what was coming, and it did. These guys came to tear it all apart, bit by bit, piece by piece. What do they care, they want to try to make a name for themselves in the corporate world. Everyone and everything involved with NWA is gone. Look at it, a shred of an airliner. A sliver of what it use to be. Sad, so very, very sad.

You may remember it that way, but you are mistaken. I was at the first meeting they had with the employees and everything was hunky dory. Marvin Davis was someone who everyone was convinced would break up the company T. Boons Pickins style. The feeling about Checchi and Wilson was pretty good for quite a while. I was also at a party the company gave, in 1990 for the 25 year employees. The feeling toward Checchi, who was the keynote speaker, was still pretty good then.

Oh, I should have added: How does the government stop the sale of a company that is privately owned by private shareholders? The shareholders voted to sell the company and made a lot of money.

Now, RETCAPT, I am sure your recollection of the early NWA- days, will be different than mine. The vultures have come to pick and eat of whatever is or could be left of the company. Now they're trying to combine companies to fill their bank accounts and golden parachutes. We sure know the story.

What your saying gramps, is that the employees were still drinking the company kool-aid?
We all felt like a real employee of a company you could be proud to say you worked for. As a whole we employees felt like one big family working towards the betterment of our employer.

It was a sad day when our eyes were opened.

Our eyes remain open and Delta employees don't understand why the NW employees don't trust the upper management and CEO's.(They are inviting the same players that ruined NW to the Dal/NWA dance merger) Delta employees are still drinking the company Kool aid.

Guess it doesn't matter though, they (Dal employees) should remain happy until the slaughter begins.

What's that saying? Ignorance is bliss!
