It's sad to hear Continental getting downgraded to UAL ranks. They were approaching the status of airline quality service like JetBlue, but with this announcement, the drop will be huge. CAL and JBU would be a great match, but we rather see JBU as a stand alone carrier.

No! Tell me it isn't so. United is the pits. How does one merge a star carrier with the most miserable airline in the U.S.?

DudeCALman... so you want to stoop low as UA in the nineties. Will that make you feel better?? And Excalibur, you peg CO with JetBlue.... 10 years ago Jetblue wouldnt hasve made any Top 5 Lists. And today our standards are so low. And a merger of CO and JetBlu... plz do some math... they both have huge presence in NY. Do you think that will pass thru a DOJ Review? And you SAM, what today is a star carrier was Loreno's baby just 20 years ago. And what you call the pits, UA, the THE AIRLINE then, having their Flight attendants get training from Ritz Carlton Hotel Group. This is just the respone to the new reality of a combined DL/NW. It was inevitable. So be patient and wait for the dust to settle. It anint over till the fat lady sings. I think CO/UA merger would eventually bring foward the world premier airline that will fly nonstop from the us to ALL world capitals. Something they cant do alone. They will cover all the big business US markets, from NY to LA, Chicago, Den, Houston to SFO and to Washington DC. Nobody else can do that. American is the only one today that offers that scope and the new CO/UA will be far more fierce competitor to AA ever.

If this merger were to happen, the only saviors will be Larry Kellner at the helm and all the other CO Co-workers who can help to retrain all UA employees so that the quality of service that CO has today will eventually become a global entity.

It seem like some commenters on here rate an airline combination by their perceived image of the flight attendants. Try to stay on track please! We're talking about the merger and not about how you had a bad meal or a flight attendant didn't puff up your pillow on your last flight.

The merger combination (with the right management) has great potential. Very few overlapping routes or hubs, United strong presence (midwest/west coast and Pacific) and CO's in Europe, Latin America and NY area would be unmatched by any other combination.
An AA/CO match-up would result in an outright rejection by the DOJ or many assets divested since both have a major presence in NY and Texas.

I personally pick an airline for it's schedule and it's aircraft (I avoid RJ's like the plague) Price is a consideration but it's definitely not the primary deciding factor. I won't connect if there is a N/S available for $100 more. I won't wait until 8PM to fly if I'm ready to go at 4PM and there's a flight leaving then for a couple bucks more.

Oh BTW, I've had a few grumpy flight attendants and a couple bitter ticket agents too...I got over it since I've had bad days myself. United has gotten me to my destinaion safety every time.

Not all of us are bad. Its true the management team that is in Chicago right now is horrible and have made for a bad work environment for the employees. Overall though most of us are really nice people and are hanging in there hoping that things will change as soon as Tilton gets his money and leaves. Didnt Continental go through this is the early 90s? Please dont be mean to your future coworkers.

Of course you're not all bad. It's usually the small minority that would be. To suggest getting rid of all UA employees is simply the wishes of a bad actor.

As a UAL employee I look forward to a merger with CAL, the routes the management a new start what a powerhouse we could be combined. Alot of UAL employees are eager to show what they can do given a different management style. After riding the redundencies there might even be a little stability i9n the new airline

R U just a bitter human or just want to post something. Dont bother with a response. Iam sure most CO workers will put past behind them. Then during the L Days and post bankruptciy, everyone, AA, DL, US, NW were mean to CO employees. And look where they are today. If UA went with US, oh dear God that would be mess. The choice between Tilton and Doug isnt a choice at all.... it is like Dubya or Cheney.LOL

Employee's of both airlines, take most of these thoughts with a grain of salt. Most of you are fantastic people, with a complex history in the airline industry. Most passengers have a "National Enquirer" mentaltiy of the industry. In other words, they don't have a clue, yet, they think purchasing a ticket makes them a expert. Hardly.

Same here, I'm glad to be out of the rat race. Have you seen some of the approved items on the pilots list? I can't believe these were approved, where is the company coming up with their money demands when the lost a combined 10 Billion. I say they will agree to anything, because within the mergers 1st year there will be bk2. The only way to reneg on contract perposals.
here's a short list.
*24 month Furlough Protection - No pilot can be furloughed

*Stronger Scope Language

*5% pay increase on 1/1/09, 4% EACH year thereafter

*Int'l pay for all pilots ($5.20 p/hr for Captains,$3.90 for F/Os)

*Increased Profit Sharing

*Per Diem increases

*Reimbursement of real estate commissions in the event a base is closed within 24 months. Max; $35,000.00

*Full pay sick leave hours increased from 240 to 300 hours on a rolling three-year basis

*Seat on the Delta Board of Directors

*Medical Insurance Retirement improvements

*Additional 1% to Defined Contribution Plan (with increases in 2011 and 2012)

*3.5 Equity in the merged Company

*Delta Air Lines agrees to pay the Union's "costs and fees" incurred as a result of the merger

All the UA employees want is to do a great job at a company that really wants to be an airline. I don't really care if it's called United, Continental, or Joe's Airline. There are a ton of great people at UAL and they just want to work for a company- not a carpetbagger like Tilton.

Anybody at CO that makes cracks about UA or its service, must not have been on the property before about 1995. If we're going to work together to be great, we don't need whiners, so let's knock that stuff off before we start together, shall we?
